Important
information for External Students entering for University of London
examinations
- UOL
Examinations are held in the UK and world-wide at Overseas Examination
Authorities (please refer to the list of Overseas Authorities given
in the Course Regulations for your subject).
- Most
examinations are in the form of three-hour written papers; some
include course-work which counts towards final assessment.
- Irrespective
of mode or place of study or examination, External Students who
are awarded degrees and other awards will have attained the same
academic standard as students studying at a College of the University
of London in London.
- Students
who have passed an examination are not permitted to re-enter the
examination in order to achieve a better result.
Register for an
examination
- Before making entry to an examination,
you must have followed a prescribed period of study as a registered
student please read carefully through the relevant sections of
the current Regulations concerning "Initial Registration",
"Examinations" and "Entry to Examinations",
paying particular attention to the deadlines for the receipt of
entry forms.
- In order to register for an examination,
you must complete an examination entry form, indicating clearly
the subjects in which you wish to be examined.
- It is crucial that you submit your
examination entry form by the deadlines for examination entry.
- If you are sitting the examination
overseas, you should request the appropriate entry form from your
chosen Overseas Examination Authority and return the completed form
to that Authority (not the University) for onward transmission to
London.
- Please note that Overseas Examination
Authorities' deadlines for the return of completed entry forms are
usually set well in advance of the University deadlines.
- If you are sitting the examination
in London, your completed entry form must be submitted to the relevant
Examinations Office by the deadline for the receipt of entries at
the University.
- If you follow the procedures set
out above, you will be entered for the examination and receive an
Admission Notice/Timetable approximately two weeks before the start
of the examinations. Provisional starting dates are set out in the
Course Regulations for your subject.
Payment of Examination
Entry Fee
- Please check section "Fees
and Refunds" of your current Course Regulations for examination
fees payable to the University.
- If you are sitting the examination
at a centre in the UK and Eire (other than London) or overseas,
you may also have to pay a local fee to the Examination centre.
- Please note that examination entry
fees are not refundable or transferable to another year if you are
unable to attend the examination.
Writing the examination

You should attend
the examination at the starting times notified to you by your Examinations
Authority, even if this differs from that given on your Admission
Notice.

You are required
to observe all the instructions given to you by the Invigilators
or officers responsible for the conduct of the examination.

You must comply
with the instructions given in the rubric of the examination question
paper.

All written answers,
including rough work, must be done in the Answer Book supplied by
the Examination Authority.

You may not bring
into the examination room any notes, paper or other materials except
those which have specifically been permitted in the examination
by the examiners.

Cheating is an
examination offence and may lead to exclusion from all future examinations
of the University.

Please note that
Examiners attach great importance to legibility, accuracy and clearness
of expression.

Essays or other
work written in your own time must be your own work, and any quotations
from the published or unpublished works of other people must be
acknowledged.
Results
-
All scripts are
returned to the University of London for marking.

Results will be
processed as quickly as possible after the Examiners' Final Meetings
and thereafter your marks or grades obtained at the examination
will be sent to you.

the section headed "Notification of Results, Prizes and Award
of Degree Certificates" of your Course Regulations for further
information.

If you have been
successful at the final examination, a certificate under the seal
of the University will be delivered to you within three months after
receipt of your results.

Graduates will
also be invited to attend a presentation ceremony in London.
